FCA Students Make Global Impact

Justin Allaman

November 14, 2016

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes students at West Central High School are making a global difference by sending seventy six shoeboxes packed with gifts overseas to children in need.

The endeavor—called Operation Christmas Child—is a project of the international relief organization, Samaritan’s Purse.  The mission of Samaritan’s Purse is to provide local partners around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies. These simple gifts are sent outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S.

WCHS students began collecting donated items earlier this month with students giving a presentation to the WCHS staff. Students were encouraged to bring in donations during lunchtime and local community members and churches supported the project as well.

Once all of the donations had been turned in, FCA students met to pack the gifts into shoeboxes, sorting the items into gender and age appropriate boxes. After being collected on November 14th, the gift boxes will be sent to a regional distribution center before being shipped overseas.

Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has delivered gift-filled shoeboxes to over 135 million children in more than 150 countries and territories.
