New HS Math Teacher - Michael Holloran
August 09, 2017
Hello, my name is Michael Holloran, West Central High School's newest math teacher. I am from Crystal Lake, IL and currently live in Burlington, IA. I have wanted to be a teacher since the 4th grade, and in high school, math quickly emerged as my favorite subject and my desired subject to teach. Through my four years of high school, I was a math tutor and a member of the school newspaper. I attended Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, located in beautiful Winona, MN, majored in Secondary Mathematics Education, and graduated in 2014. After college, I worked at a math tutoring center called Mathnasium. Working at Mathnasium gave me great experience working with students of differing math abilities. For example, one child might be working on their basic addition skills while a child sitting next to them is working on their geometry skills. Going between students of varying levels taught me how to focus on the individual student and to meet their unique needs. When I am not teaching, I enjoy reading and watching superhero movies (Marvel > DC). Let's have a great year and make math super fun and exciting!
