FAFSA Changes

The FAFSA.gov site opened on October 1st.

Please remember that all State and Federal funds are disbursed on a first come first serve basis. The monies are disbursed quickly so please be mindful to file your FAFSA as soon as possible!

Scholarships

2018 Brent Slocum Foundation Scholarship - $5,000 scholarship for high school senior who has a 3.0 GPA or better on a 4.0 scale. Student must be able to attend the Slocum 50 Memorial Race at 34 Raceway on April 21, 2018. See counselor for application. Deadline is April 21st.

The Jack Brokaw Trade School Scholarship Fund – Applicant must be a Henderson County resident for not less than one year prior to application, have stated goal of certification, diploma, associate’s degree or other documented level of marketable skill or trade. See counselor for application. Deadline is March 10th.

The Alta Mae Brokaw Memorial Scholarship – Applicant must be West Central student continuing their education at either a 2 or 4 year college or university, with preferential treatment being given to those who have financial need. See counselor for application. Deadline is February 28th.

Roy H. and Joan Huber Gerling Trust Award – Applicant must be West Central high school senior planning to attend a community college, 4 year college or trade school. One female and one male recipient will be chosen. See counselor for application. Deadline is March 2nd.

Joe Torrance Memorial Scholarship - $500 scholarship for West Central high school senior, planning to further their education. See counselor for applications. Deadline is March 22nd.

Riverview Sportsmen of Dallas City Scholarship – Student must be planning to further their education by attending a vocational school, 2 year or 4 year college or university. See counselor for application. Deadline is April 6th.

Oquawka Masonic Lodge Memorial Scholarship – Must be 2018 graduate of West Central, have maintained a ‘B’ average, be attending an accredited college or university as a fulltime student and submit a short essay on ‘Willingness to Learn’. See counselor for applications. Deadline is April 1st.

Cavins Scholarship – Four $500 scholarships will be awarded to graduating West Central seniors whose parents actively farm and who are planning to attend a four-year college in the fall. Deadline is April 15th.

Lions Club Service Award - $250 scholarship – West Central high school senior planning to attend a 2 year, 4 year or technical school who has been active in volunteer work and activities to improve our community. See counselor for application. Deadline is April 15th.

Illinois Sheriffs’ Association Scholarship – Applicant must be permanent resident of Illinois, scholarship money must be used at institution of higher learning within the state of Illinois, and applicant must be enrolled as a fulltime student. See counselor for application. Deadline is March 15th.

Todd Hamilton Scholarship – Applicant must be West Central high school student who is attending a 4 year school in the fall. Must have a 3.0 GPA, and write a 1-2 page essay on ‘Why I Choose to Further My Education’. See counselor for more information. Deadline is February 23rd.

Vail Cordell Scholarship – Applicant must be a West Central high school senior and must write a 1-2 page essay on ‘Who I Admire Most’. See counselor for more information. Deadline is February 23rd.

Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarship – Applications can be found online at www.whfarmbureau.org  Deadline is February 28th.

Illinois Masonic Grand Lodge Scholarship: See counselor for applications. Deadline for all scholarships: April 1st.

Grand Lodge of A.F. & A.M. of Illinois: Masonic relationship is required. Applicant must have a father or grandfather who is (or was at the time of his death) a member in good standing as an Illinois Master Mason. The applicant does not have to be a resident of Illinois.

Health Career Fields: Masonic relationship is not required. The recipient must intend to enter the field of health care. Health care includes (but is not limited to) nursing, physical therapy or occupational therapy, radiology, anesthesiology, etc.

Sherwood and Evelyn Kresin: Masonic relationship is not required. This scholarship has an exception for the ‘undergraduate only’ restriction. The recipient may be in an undergraduate or a graduate course of study. There is no restriction regarding the recipients’ course of study.

Robert B. Perkins: Masonic relationship is required. The applicant must have a father, grandfather, brother, or uncle who is (or was, if deceased) a member in good standing of an Illinois Scottish Rite Valley. There is no restriction regarding the recipient’s course of study.

Louis L. Williams: Masonic relationship is required. The applicant must have a father, grandfather, brother, or uncle who is (or was, if deceased) a member in good standing of an Illinois Scottish rite Valley. The applicant must attend Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois. There is no restriction regarding the recipient’s course of study.

Abbott Scholarship: The applicant must be a child of a Scottish Rite Mason in the Northern Jurisdiction. The recipient must be an undergraduate student attending an accredited college or university for the upcoming academic year.

While all other scholarships require a ‘B’ average, the Abbott scholarship has a minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 grading scale.

The Illinois Odd Fellow-Rebekah Scholarship Program – Odd Fellow and/or Rebekah membership is not required to qualify for a scholarship. Applicant must be planning to attend a post-secondary school or an accredited vocational or technical school, have maintained a ‘C’ average, be a citizen of the U.S. or provide proof of Naturalization, be a resident of Illinois and provide proof of financial need. Applications are available at www.ioof-il.org Deadline is March 1st.

Karna Foster Impact Scholarship - $1,000 scholarship awarded to students’ who recognize Karna’s commitment to improving society. See counselor for application. Deadline is February 28th.

Aspiring Nurse Scholarship - $1,000 scholarship awarded to a future nurse in the graduating class of 2018 who best demonstrates a track record of academic excellence, particularly in math and science and a passion for the nursing profession and the overall field in healthcare. Apply at http://www.nursingschoolsalmanac.com Deadline is August 31st.

Eastern Illinois University Ambassador Scholarship - $2,000 scholarship for senior attending Eastern University in the fall. No requirements for GPA or test scores but you must have letter of recommendation from teacher, principal or mentor and write essay addressing ‘How have you been a role model for students at your high school and peers in your community?’ For more information visit https://www.eiu.edu/ambassador-scholarship/

Great River Friends Scholarship – Must have minimum GPA of 3.0, plan to pursue career in the health field. See counselor for application. Deadline is February 15th.

2018 Festival of Wheels Tom Ciolek Memorial Scholarship – $1500 automotive based scholarship. Applicant must be a high school senior, permanent resident of U.S., resident of Tri State area and interested in pursuing a career in the automotive industry. See counselor for applications. Deadline is April 13th.

American Legion Auxiliary Ada Mucklestone Scholarship – Applicant must be graduating senior, provide brief statement of military service of parent or grandparent and write essay “What My Education Will Do for Me”. See counselor for application. Deadline is March 16th.

Diana (Diane) De Pover-Nesseler Memorial Scholarship – Renewable upon reapplication – applicants must be planning to attend a community college in the Quad Cities area with preference toward females pursuing a career in Applied Technologies/Career Tech Programs. Apply at www.cfgrb.org Deadline is February 15th.

Kelly Marie McQuate Memorial Scholarship – Award recipient will be a high school senior who has lost a mother or a father, either biological or adoptive. Financial need is the main criteria. Apply at www.cfgrb.org Deadline is February 15th.

Quad Cities Mexican American Organization Scholarship – Applicants must be of Hispanic descent and have a minimum GPA of 2.0. Financial need is NOT a consideration. Apply at www.cfgrb.org Deadline is February 15th.

American Legion Past President’s Parley Scholarship – Applicant must be seeking career in nursing and be enrolling in fulltime accredited program. See counselor for application. Deadline is March 29thst.

U. S. Army Minuteman Scholarship – Covers full tuition and fees or $10,000 for room and board at any college or university served by an Army Reserve Officer’s Training Corps. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, be between the ages of 17-31, have valid MEPS physical, be currently in the Army Reserve or eligible for enlistment, have ability to pass APFT, meet AR 600-9 standards, pass MSC commander interview, professor of military science validation, have acceptance letter to college, proof of academic major and ACT or SAT scores and enroll in ROTC.  For more information visit usar.army.mil/MinutemanScholarship

Athnet Sports Recruiting Scholarship - $1000 scholarship to current or future college student who plays or has played high school sports. 400-500 word essay. Apply at https://www.athleticsscholarships.net/athlete-application.htm Deadline is June 1st.

APIASF Scholarship Program – Applicant must be of Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity as defined by U.S. Census, be a citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the U.S., be enrolling as an undergraduate student in a U.S. accredited college or university in the Fall of 2018, have a minimum GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale, must complete the FAFSA, and submit one letter of recommendation. Warth Insurance Agency Scholarship - $250 – High school senior who will be attending a post-secondary school which includes a college or university, trade school or vocational program, have GPA of 2.50 or better, provide most recent transcript.
