Cold and Flu Season

A Friendly Reminder

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

Cold and flu season has arrived! Below is West Central’s policy regarding exclusion periods for sick students as well as some preventative tips. Please adhere to these guidelines. Let's work together to keep our school community and our homes as healthy as possible! A few preventative tips: (1) frequent hand washing, (2) cover coughs & sneezes, (3) do not share drinks, (4) get plenty of rest, and (5) avoid people that are sick & stay home when you are sick.

Exclusion Periods:

Please do NOT send your student to school if he/she has or has had:

  1. Fever of 100 F or greater within the last 24 hours (must be fever free without medication)

  2. Communicable disease (spread from person to person) such as strep throat or pinkeye (may return 24 hours after starting antibiotics)

  3. Vomiting or diarrhea within the last 24 hours

  4. Continuous coughing

  5. Or any other obvious signs of illness

*Please remember to notify school if your student has an illness

A few other reminders:

  1. Students that have a fever (100 or greater) here at school will be sent home. If the student is sent home with an elevated temperature from school, then the student should not return the following day (ensures the 24 hour fever free policy).

  2. If a student requires medication during school hours, the school must have a medication form from the student's doctor and parent per state requirements (this includes prescription medications and any over-the-counter medications such as cough drops, tylenol, motrin, cough medicine).

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Thank you!
