Census Day - April 1, 2020

April 01, 2020

The U.S. Constitution requires that every person living in the United States is counted every ten years for the purpose of ensuring fair representation and distribution of resources. The U.S. Census Bureau will carry out the census this spring, and Census Day is on April 1, 2020. The decennial census provides foundational information that will be used to make policy decisions for the next ten years.

Billions of dollars are at stake for Illinois in the 2020 Census, as well as our number of U.S. Representatives. Federal funding determined by the 2020 Census will support West Central's Title funding, Head Start programs, nutrition services, Medicaid, and other services for children and families. We have students who live in Henderson, McDonough, and Warren Counties. Missing one child and/or adult means missing out on federal funding for that child, for the West Central School District, and for Henderson, McDonough, and Warren Counties for the next 10 years.

It is so important that EACH AND EVERY resident of the West Central School District and Henderson, McDonough, and Warren Counties be counted.  Please help the West Central School District and each of these counties by filling out your Census today! It only takes a few minutes. Attached are instructions on how to do that.

Thank you!

Paula Markey, Superintendent
West Central C.U.S.D. #235
