The West Central Middle School Harry Potter Club attended a showing of the newest HP movie. ON Monday November 19, all 10 members of the club, sponsor Mrs. Rankin and her husband Professor Doug Rankin went to Westland Mall to see The Crimes of Grindewald. The club members had a great time and ate a lot of popcorn and candy. The plot twists and surprises in the movie kept everyone talking all the way home. . . .
Unfortunately in today’s world you never know what can happen. School budgets are extremely tight, safety of students and staff is always a priority and with that in mind, Boy Scout Troop 61 in Oquawka used retired fire hose to make safety door sleeves. On the morning of Monday, November 12, 2018, Mr. Bob Cravens of Gladstone led WCHS in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Cravens served in the Air Force from 1967 -1971. During that time he served in Vietnam from 1969-1970. Following Mr. Cravens leading the pledge, students met him in the hallway to shake his hand and thank him for his service. Congratulations to Makayla and Roland for participating in the “Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater” Contest. Both students completed STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math ) activities with their pumpkins such as measuring, testing to see if the pumpkin floated, and counting and sorting the seeds. On Friday, September 9, West Central Middle School held our annual Veterans Day program. Our local boy scout troop led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and eighth graders Allie Strack and Bindi Bailey sang the National Anthem. The middle school band and choir performed as well as our high school band. Raven Pence and Elaina Fisher read their Patriot’s Pen essays and Mrs. Rankin’s entrepreneurship class served refreshments. . . .
The High School Student Council sponsored an American Red Cross blood drive Friday, November 9, 2018. We had 36 students and community members come through to donate. The Red Cross collected 28 units of blood which can be used to help save 84 people. Everything went well and we hope to get even more donors when the Student Council hosts its next blood drive in the spring. Thank you for donating in support of this good cause.
The West Central Middle School Harry Potter Club raised money for the FOCC in Stronghurst. On Halloween Day, the club sponsored a costume dress up event and Harry Potter Character Look-alike contest. Students in the Middle School were allowed to wear a costume that day and pay $1.00 for the privilege. Students who dressed as a Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts Character were automatically entered in the contest. . . .

This is an exciting time for WCMS as we build off past successes and continue to strive to make this a school that our staff, students, and communities can be proud of. Our teacher teams meet daily to help provide both the educational and emotional support needed to make each of our students successful.
