The students voted for team captains, who then chose their teams. Students debated the use of atomic bombs by the U.S. in WW2. Students that were not on debate teams acted as the audience and evaluated the debate teams using rubrics. The winning debate teams received food or drink prizes. It was exciting to watch and Chris Ford was voted "MVP" the debates.
Any students interested in free band lessons over the summer needs to contact Mr. Stewart. Lessons will take place at the high school. The weather was beautiful for the West Central Courageous Smiles Track Team on May 4, 2018 when they went to Carthage High School for the meet. All the participants had an amazing time. They threw baseballs, softballs, long jumped, whistled and ran. All with big smiles on their faces. They all had a great lunch and visited with the athletes. They each received a medal for all there hard work. They did an outstanding job . . .
We are looking for high school age individuals to join the 2018 flag squad. The flag squad participates with the marching band at all parades, football games, and field show competitions. On May 8th the high school STEM class toured CNH Industrial in Burlington. Equipment manufactured at this plant include backhoes and combine headers. After we signed in and showed our picture ID’s, we got bright orange vests, safety glasses, and headsets to hear our tour guide, Chris Talley, a CNH engineer. It is with great honor and excitement that I introduce myself, Kimberly Harrison, as the new Assistant Principal of West Central Elementary. I recently graduated from Western Illinois University with a Master of Science in Educational Leadership. I previously graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, and have had the privilege of teaching high school mathematics for the last ten years.
