By Mrs. Paula Markey
As we look forward to the 2015-2016 school year, I am honored to serve as the Superintendent of West Central C.U.S.D. #235. Thank you for the warm welcome I have received. I have met and had conversations with many individuals already, and the pride with which these individuals speak about West Central is inspiring. West Central has incredible students, staff, families and community members who come together to support our mission of Providing Opportunity and Expecting Excellence. To those new to our school community, we welcome you as well and look forward to you joining our team.
Please allow me to tell you a little about myself and my family. My husband, Mitch, and I have been married for 28 years. We have three children, Angelica (25), Caleb (23), and Colton (16). Mitch works for DuPont Pioneer as a Research Associate. Professionally, I taught business and technology for Southeastern C.U.S.D. #337 for 14 years and as a part-time instructor for Spoon River College for 12 years. Most recently, I served as the Elementary Principal and Assistant Superintendent for West Prairie C.U.S.D. #103. Please don’t hesitate to come up and introduce yourself to me as you see me out and about in the district and in the communities. I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can!
My mission as your next Superintendent is to maintain and grow a rigorous teaching and learning environment that provides every student with a sense of belonging while helping students to grow intellectually, emotionally and socially. It is critical to every student’s success that he/she graduates from high school with the skills necessary to pursue and achieve his/her goals and dreams. We take very seriously that you have entrusted the young people of this community to our care, and together we will work diligently to put what is best for students at the forefront and provide opportunities to achieve excellence. Our focus will be on continuous improvement and communication. We will keep you informed through newsletters, emails, social media, phone, text messages, and/or our district website. We welcome constructive comments and suggestions that will help us to improve the West Central District and make it the best it can be.
Thank you for your support of our efforts to provide a quality and comprehensive education for all of our students. Your support is appreciated and necessary for continuous improvement. The entire District #235 staff and Board of Education work thoughtfully to make decisions focused on doing what is best for our students. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of assistance to you.
