Veterans Leading WCHS in the Pledge of Allegiance
During the week prior to Veterans Day, the WCHS student body will be led in the Pledge of Allegiance by a local veteran each day.
Monday, November 6, we had the privilege of being led by Mr. Ray Shafer, 94 years old from Biggsville. Mr. Shafer served three years in the Army Infantry from 1943-1945. He was at The Battle of the Bulge. After an injury, he continued to serve by volunteering to drive a truck hauling supplies. Thank you Mr. Shafer, for your service.
Tuesday, November 7 brought Mr. Darren Stewart to lead us in the pledge. Darren Stewart served in the United States Air Force 1984 to 2005. Darren's daughter Sydney and son Wesley are students at West Central HS. Thank you Mr. Stewart, for your service
Mr. Jim Zeilstra of Oquawka led us in the pledge on Wednesday, November 8. Mr. Zeilstra served in the Army from 1982-2012. During that time he served a 13 month tour in Afghanistan. Thank you for your service Mr. Zeilstra.
Thursday, November 9 brought us Veteran Norm Menzenberg from Stronghurst to lead the pledge. Mr. Menzenberg served in the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era and he served in the South Dakota Air National Guard. Mr. Menzenberg is the Stronghurst American Legion Adjutant. Thank you for your service Mr. Menzenberg.
Mr. Bob Cravens of Gladstone led the pledge on Friday, November 10. Mr. Cravens served in the Air Force from 1967 -1971. During that time he served in Vietnam from 1969-1970. Thank you for your service Mr. Cravens.
