WCHS Career Day 2017

April 06, 2017

On Wednesday, March 29, 2017, West Central High School sponsored a Career Day for the 8th-12th graders at West Central School District.  The event was held beginning at 12:30 in the afternoon.  Each student had the opportunity to attend four different sessions concerning various careers.

There were a total 45 speakers who volunteered for the day.  We appreciate the speakers taking the time out of their day to talk with the students about their careers. Some of the businesses who participated were:  Iowa Wesleyan, BNSF, Menard's, Great River Health Systems, Peoria County Health Department, Crowley and Bunger Law Offices, Illinois State Police, Oakwood Estates, Roseville Veterinary Clinic, State's Attorney's Office, General Grind, CBG, EnSeason Restaurant, Eagle View Health, Klinger & Associates, WMOI, Modern Welding, and Randall's Performance.  The following career areas were also covered:  daycare, landscaping, X-ray technician, PT/OT, nursing, education, psychology, speech/language, computers, accounting, commercial trucking, and heavy equipment operations. If you have the opportunity to thank any of the speakers who made the time to come to our school to share from their expertise, please do so.

We heard specifically from multiple speakers that students were very attentive and well behaved, so good job to the student body.  Our community members and speakers from outside the community got a good sampling of the quality of students West Central has to offer.  We were even told of a couple of students may have found both shadowing and paid job opportunities with some of the speakers.

With 45 speakers in the building, students may just have met their future co worker or employer!  Wonderful!
