Following Graduation practice on Friday, May 17, the Class of 2019 walked the halls of WCEL. This gives students and teachers the opportunity to congratulate the class. It is also a good time for younger students to have a visual of the end goal of graduating some day. Congratulations to the Class of 2019!
We had a Because of Winn-Dixie party reenactment after doing a unit with the novel. Egg salad sandwiches with fancy toothpicks, a BIG jar of dill pickles, Gloria Dump's dump punch, Littmus Lozenges (Brach's root beer barrels & strawberry candy with a touch of melancholy because an awesome school year is ending), peanut butter sandwiches for Winn-Dixie's love of peanut butter (no allergies in my room). On Monday, the middle school had one of the last Monday Morning Assemblies for the school year. This one was a little more special as Coach Booton brought the 2nd Place State Track trophy to present it to the school. The halls at West Central Elementary have been abuzz with talk of our first ever Battle of the Books Competition. Seventy-one students in grades 3 thru 5 participated in this event by listening to and reading 10 specific books. The teams were a wonderful learning experience for the students as they paired 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students together on a team. Next, the teams worked together going head to head for five days . . .
If you hear some "peeping" as you walk down the elementary hallways, don't be surprised! All three Kindergarten classes are successfully hatching baby chicks this week. While learning about oviparous animals and the life cycle of a chicken, over 4 dozen eggs were incubating in their classrooms. The students are super excited to end their 21 day wait with cute and energetic baby chicks!
Congratulations to the West Central MS Track as they took 2nd place at the IESA State Meet last weekend in Peoria. Kaiden took home 4 first place finishes and the 4x100 team took 8th place. Also,Sadie Lenz took home the Sectional title in Triple Jump and will jump this Thursday at the IHSA state meet.
