Senior Spotlight - March 22, 2021

It's hard to believe that we are already less than two months away from our WCHS graduation ceremony.

Last year, we started a new tradition at WC of highlighting our graduating seniors (that wished to be recognized) on all of our district social media accounts.

Our first Senior Spotlight of the Class of 2021 is: Kaitlyn Waugh

Kaitlyn's plans after graduation include attending Carl Sandburg College and doing something in nursing. She then hopes to go on to Monmouth College and start her pre-med, so she can jump into getting her degree in Pediatrics at a medical school.

Her favorite class was Mrs. A's Child Development class. As Kaitlyn explained, "The class was so hands on, and it was the very thing that made me realize what I wanted to do for my career. Mrs. A's class got me interested in children and learning about their development...I loved every minute of it."

Her advice to underclassmen is to:

"always turn your assignments in on time, try your best, and never give up. Most of the time, teachers can tell when someone is trying their best, but still not grasping a concept, or when someone is simply not trying. Teachers are not bad people; they are usually willing to work with you if you work with them. This goes for turning in your assignments too. I've seen people unnecessarily lose points on an assignment just for not turning it in on time. It's easily preventable, and will pay off in the long run. If you make an effort to do this, your teachers might be more lenient too if it happens to be an accident. Most importantly, never ever give up. School is hard, school is stressful, finals are intimidating, even socializing with your peers can take a toll on you; there are so many sources of stress in school and education. However, it is so important that you never give up. Always try your hardest, always do your best, and talk to your peers and teachers when necessary. It is so worth it to get your diploma and be able to say 'I did that.'"

Congratulations to Kaitlyn Waugh on her upcoming graduation from WCHS! We are proud of you!
