COVID Positive Notification

September 10, 2021

Good afternoon,

The number of COVID positive cases in our school district continues to increase.  Because this virus seems to be impacting kids more than before, we anticipate we will continue to have positive cases on a more regular basis. At this time, we do not believe these exposures are happening within the school setting. It seems they are being exposed outside of school.

Because the number of positives are coming on a more regular basis, we are going to use an alternative method of informing you of the positive cases rather than a phone call and/or email.  We have added a COVID-19 link to the top of our District website at www.wc235.k12.il.us.  If you click on that link, you will be taken to a COVID-19 dashboard that communicates the number of positive cases we currently have and have had since the beginning of this school year. At the elementary level, we can better keep kids in cohorts, limiting their contact to students in their same grade level and avoiding exposure elsewhere in the building; however, at the middle school and high school that becomes more difficult.  That is why we have chosen to report the numbers as you will see on the dashboard.  Please remember when students eat lunch, they will remove their masks. In addition, each grade level at the elementary will join their other grade-level peers on the playground at recess without masks. We want you to be aware as these are areas where there is potentially more risk of exposure. We will be adding additional COVID related informational documents to this link as well.

We know we would rather be able to attend school without masks, but we thank you for your cooperation in following this mandate and in keeping our students and staff safe.  Since the exposures seem to be coming from outside the school setting, we do believe they are helping to keep our students in person. Thank you for your continued patience and support.

In Partnership,

Paula Markey
