Muffins with Mom 2019

Rosie Revere took center stage this year at Muffins with Mom.  Rosie is the inventive, engineering main character of the book, Rosie Revere, Engineer written by Andrea Beaty.  After the students and their guests enjoyed muffins and juice, they listened to the book being read aloud by astronaut Kate Rubins.  This video featured her reading it from the International Space Station.

Then the group went to the kindergarten through 2nd grade classrooms.  Here they read a short fold book about famous engineers. Next, everyone got creative by making helium pants similar to the ones in the story by using a paper plate, straws, balloons, and tape.  It was wonderful to see all the different ways that students and guests constructed their own versions!

Before leaving, guests learned about a fun Home Family Activity.  Students can create a flying machine and bring it to school during Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 24th and 25th.  Participation prizes will be given out to students. We are looking forward to seeing everyone’s terrific contraptions during conference time.  Please let your child’s teacher know if your family needs a copy of this activity page.

If you would like to hear other books read aloud by astronauts from the International Space Station, go to www.storytimefromspace.com and look under the “Story Time Videos” tab.  You can also find many other Rosie Revere STEM activities by googling “Rosie Revere, Engineer STEM activities.”

Don’t forget that Donuts with Dad is fast approaching on Friday, November 1st.  See you then!
