Pastries With Parents 2018

By Kelly, Judy

February 14, 2018

It was all “higher order thinking” for the Pastries with Parents event at West Central Elementary on Friday, February 9th.  While attendees enjoyed pastries and juice, Mrs. Lafary kicked off the program and Mrs. Lumbeck joined in, discussing why hands on learning is a terrific way to provide higher order thinking and learning.  Then students and their special guests had a variety of activities to explore including; Lock Box activities, Lego Challenges, Tangram building, Kitchen Chemistry, and coding tasks on www.code.org.  All were engaged and busy, exploring and learning with their materials.  There were many great higher order thinking discussions between students and guests as they talked about the “great brain” questions included with the activities.

Illinois Senator Jil Tracy was our special guest.  She came to see this wonderful event which pairs students and parents/guests, both learning and having fun together.
