Cold & Flu Season
2025-2026 School Year
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
With the current cold and flu season upon us, West Central is seeing an increase in student illnesses. To keep our school community and homes as healthy as possible, please adhere to the following exclusion guidelines regarding when to keep a sick student at home:
When to Keep Your Student Home
Please do NOT send your student to school if they have experienced any of the following in the last 24 hours:
- Fever: A temperature of 100.4 F or higher. The student must be fever-free for a full 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication before returning.
- Stomach Issues: Any instance of vomiting or diarrhea
- Respiratory Issues: Continuous coughing
- Communicable Diseases: Illnesses spread person-to-person, such as pinkeye or strep throat. Students may generally return 24 hours after starting antibiotics if they are also fever-free for 24 hours (unless otherwise noted by a doctor).
School Policies & Reminders
- Fever at School: Students who register a fever of 100.4 F or higher while at school will be sent home and must be picked up. To ensure the 24-hour fever-free policy is met, these students should not return to school the following day.
- Medication Requirements: If your student requires any medication during school hours—including over-the-counter items like cough drops, Tylenol, or Motrin—the school must have a medication form signed by both a doctor and a parent.
- Communication: Please notify the school immediately if your student is staying home with an illness.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students healthy!
