February 27, 2026
On Wednesday, February 3, 2026, West Central Elementary students celebrated World Read Aloud Day with two terrific guest readers from the Henderson County Public Library.
Hen-Co’s new library director, Stacy Merry, along with Loreena Baker, shared some wonderful tales, including interactive “you choose” story books. They loved sharing these stories with the students and were impressed with the kids' amazing listening skills.
Students could also take part in a bookmark contest, to commemorate this event. One winner from each classroom was selected to earn a free book.
This global literacy event honors the power of storytelling and encourages reading aloud to our children. When children hear stories read aloud it improves memory, comprehension, focus, and builds their love of reading! Snuggling up on a comfortable chair, sharing a story or two is a wonderful way to spend time together!
