Applicants eligible to apply for a Mellinger Scholarship must be an undergraduate student and live in one of the following counties: Warren, Henderson, Knox, Mercer, Fulton or McDonough. Apply online at: http://www.mellinger.org/index.php/application-tab    or see Miss Nelson for application!

 

Below is a list of the current scholarships that I am aware of and that are currently live. More will be available as the year progresses. Stop by my office if you have questions.  Remember, scholarships are free money- you should not have to pay to apply. Each little bit helps: Apply, Apply, Apply!

 

Scholarships available to Illinois & West Central students:

 

--The Julie Burdette Memorial Scholarship (Deadline: 4/14/19)

Dedicated to the memory of Mrs. Julie Burdette who worked for West Central as a 5th grade teacher for 9 years. She was an avid reader, gardener, movie watcher, traveler and camper. The recipient of this scholarship should demonstrate the following characteristics: a demonstrated commitment to helping others, participated in extracurriculars, and academic excellence.

--S.O.A.R Scholarship (Postmark deadline: 4/15/2019)

The Sedona Group believes that supporting young adults in their education and training after high school is a key part of keeping our workforce and community competitive. That is why they have partnered with WQAD News 8 to recognize outstanding high school seniors. They are looking for those who exemplify the SOAR characteristics: S- Strength of Character, O- Optimism/predictions for future success and where you will be making a difference, A-Achievement in academics and volunteerism, R-Resolve shown when faced with an adversarial situation. Three students will be selected to receive $5,000 scholarship.

--West Central Education Foundation Scholarship (Deadline: 4/15/2019)

It is the desire of the foundation board to annually award scholarships to deserving students who have completed high school in the West Central School District or its successors. The purpose of awarding scholarships is to assist in the continuation of the student education and prepare them for a successful roll in life at an institution of higher learning. Preferential treatment will be given to those who have financial need who might not otherwise be able to continue their education.

--Roy H. and Joan Huber Gerling Trust Award (Deadline: 4/15/2019)

This scholarship was established in the name of Roy H. and Joan Huber Gerling of Carman, IL.

--Smithfield Environmental Scholarship 2019 (Deadline: 4/15/2019)

Parent must work at Smithfield.

--Casey State Bank (Deadline: 4/15/2019)

Applicants must write an essay on, “What contribution do you see yourself providing to your community upon completion of your education?” and attach to application

--Western Illinois Agricultural Education Foundation Scholarship (Postmark deadline: 4/25/2019)

Available to any senior that has participated in FFA and is continuing their education in any field of interest.

--Gladys M. Bigger Memorial Scholarship (Postmark deadline: 4/25/19)

Available to seniors wanting to enter the healthcare field. Will need two letters of recommendation, transcript and application.

--2019-2020 Peacekeepers Scholarship Application (Law Enforcement or Military Dependents only) (Deadline: 5/15/2019- to local Sheriff’s office of your permanent residence)

Applicants must be permanent Illinois residents. Scholarships are to be utilized at institutions of higher learning. Students must be enrolled as a full-time student during the 2019-2020 school year (excluding summer session). Scholarships applicants must be dependents of active duty or retired Law Enforcement or Law Enforcement killed in line of duty death or dependents of active duty military, active Military Reserve, active National Guard or a member killed in action. Must attach essay on specified topic.

--Alicia Pence Scholarship (Deadline: 5/31/19)

In honor of Alicia Pence, Henderson county citizen, community volunteer, and longtime activist for Henderson County EDC two students will be awarded a $500 scholarship to be presented at the Henderson County Fair. You must be a resident of Henderson County, IL, be a community volunteer and have an individual or an organization support your application, be a senior in high school or enrolled in a college/trade school, have at least a 2.0 GPA throughout the last two years of high school, be accepted to an accredited college/university or tech. School. Winners will be announced at the Henderson County Fair.

--Mary F. Egan Scholarship (Postmark deadline: June 1, 2019)

This scholarship is dedicated to longtime KCCDD employee Mary Egan, and the recipient of this scholarship will be offered a minimum of $1,000 to help pursue future educational goals. Any student interested in pursuing a career in the fields of speech/language, health care, health or social services, or medicine are encouraged to apply.

--Innovation in Education Scholarship (Deadline: the 20th of each month)

LA Tutors awards students who showcase their creativity and make positive impacts with a $500 Innovation in Education scholarship. On an ongoing monthly basis, this scholarship is open to all currently enrolled high school and college students who showcase their creativity while helping those around them (whether that be in a creative fundraiser, inventive new app, series of blog posts on a particular theme, etc.). The application deadline is 11:59 pm PST on the 20th of each month. Requirements: Must be currently enrolled in high school or college, Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (or the equivalent), Must be a citizen of, permanent resident of, or hold a valid student visa in the United States or Canada.  To Enter:

  • Submit an essay describing their innovative project

  • Provide supporting documentation (i.e. letter of recommendation, news article/website featuring their project, etc.)
