MELLINGER GRANT APPLICATIONS! (Available 2/1-5/1) Fill out ASAP!- Mail to the Mellinger Foundation

Applicants eligible to apply for a Mellinger Scholarship must be an undergraduate student and live in one of the following counties: Warren, Henderson, Knox, Mercer, Fulton or McDonough. Below is a list of the current scholarships that I am aware of and that are currently live. Feel free to email me if you have questions.  Remember, scholarships are free money- you should not have to pay to apply. Each little bit helps: Apply, Apply, Apply! 

*All Scholarships will be awarded this year. The method in which they are presented may differ from what has been done in the past. Watch this list for deadline updates and guidance on where to send the applications/materials* 





 

--Oquawka Masonic Lodge Memorial Scholarship (Deadline: 4/1/2020)-mail to address listed on application

Applicants must be able to reference their willingness to learn, character, and chosen career field. Applicants must also provide a GPA documentation and copy of acceptance to a post-secondary institution. 

 

 

--WCATS Scholarship ($1,500) (Deadline: 4/3/2020)- Email application and materials to Mrs. Alexander alexander-jane@wc235.k12.il.us 

Senior from WCHS, attending college in fall. Preference given to applicants interested in careers related to education. GPA of at 2.5 or higher, letter of recommendation, writing sample and application required. Applications are due to Mrs. Alexander via email on 4/3/2020  . 

 

--Oquawka Ambulance Scholarship (Deadline Extended until 4/6/2020)- Email application/materials to Miss Nelson

Will need to write an essay on “Why you wish to be in the healthcare field” or “If you would be interested to become a first responder or EMT in your community.”

 


 

--Todd Hamilton Scholarship (Deadline Extended until 4/6/2020)- Email application/materials to Miss Nelson 

Students must be graduating seniors and have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale & must show proof of acceptance from a 4 year post-secondary educational institution. Applicants must write a 1-2 page essay on “Why I chose to further my education.” 

 


 

--The Leonard & Carolyn Anderson Academic Memorial Scholarship (Deadline Extended to: 4/6/2020)- Email application/materials to Miss Nelson 

This scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Leonard and Carolyn Anderson, residents of Oquawka. Both Leonard and Carolyn were active and dedicated to helping in their surrounding communities. Applicants must: have a strong commitment to helping others in their community and have a GPA of 3.4 or higher. Special consideration will be given to applicants who major in education and computer science/technology. 

 

 

--The Sharri Richard Memorial Scholarship (Deadline Extended: 4/6/2020)- Email application/materials to Miss Nelson 

This scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Mrs. Sharri Richard who worked for the Southern and West Central School Districts. Sharri was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother as well as an outstanding employee. Applicants must: demonstrate commitment to helping others, participate in extracurricular events and activities, demonstrate academic excellence, provide proof of acceptance to post-secondary institution.

 

 

--Lion’s Club Service Award Application (Deadline Extended until 4/6/2020)- email application/materials to Miss Nelson

Must be in good standing with WCHS, must have volunteer activities in Henderson County, Illinois or somewhere in the US and planning to attend a 2 year, 4 year or tech. School in the fall. 

 

--Cavin’s Scholarship (Deadline Extended until: 4/6/2020)- email application/materials to Miss Nelson 

Applicant’s parents must be actively farming. Students must be attending a  4 year college in the fall. Students must be graduating from West Central High School.

 

 

--Megan Shutwell Memorial Scholarship (Deadline extended to: 4/10/2020)- Email application/materials to: pshutwell@gmail.com 

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry shutwell, and family, established this scholarship, in memory of their daughter, and sister- Megan Shutwell. The student must be a graduating senior girl of West Central High School. The student must show acceptance and attendance from a 2 year or 4 year college. Student must have participated in at least one sport, for 4 years, and have a GPA of 3.0 or above.

 



 

--The Joe Torrance Memorial Scholarship (Deadline Extended: 4/10/2020)-Email application/materials to Miss Nelson

This scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Mr. Joe Torrance who was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. Applicants must: demonstrate commitment to helping others, have a strong work ethic, demonstrate passion for Agriculture or chosen trade, have a GPA of C or better. Recipients must provide proof of acceptance to the college/trade school.

 

 

--The Brian Hetrick Memorial Scholarship (Deadline Extended: 4/102020)- Email to Miss Nelson 

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hetrick and family established this scholarship in memory of their son. $350 will be awarded to one WCHS senior planning to further their education in college.

--The Jon Guyton Memorial Scouting Scholarship (Deadline Extended to: 4/10/2020)-Email application/materials to Miss Nelson

This scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Jon Guyton who was committed to scouting and serving his community. Applicants must write a brief essay on “How Scouting has Influenced my Life.”

Available to students attending a 2 or 4 year college or university, with preferential treatment being given to those who have financial need, and have shown academic success at West Central High School. 

 

 

--West Central Education Foundation Scholarship (Deadline: 4/15/2020)- Email application & materials to Miss Nelson

It is the desire of the foundation board to annually award scholarships to deserving students who have completed high school in the West Central School District or its successors. The purpose of awarding scholarships is to assist in the continuation of the student education and prepare them for a successful role in life at an institution of higher learning. Preferential treatment will be given to those who have financial need who might not otherwise be able to continue their education.

Nauvoo Festival on Wheels-Tom Ciolek Memorial Scholarship (Deadline Extended to 4/17) Mail to: Festival On Wheels

The Nauvoo Festival on Wheels Committee is accepting applications for a scholarship for a high school senior which has demonstrated scholastic achievement and will pursue post-secondary education at an accredited educational institution. The Festival on Wheels Scholarship was established in 2012 to encourage Tri-State area seniors to continue their education and pursue an automotive based career. 

 


 

--Roy H. and Joan Huber Gerling Trust Award (Deadline: 4/15/2020)- email application & materials to Miss Nelson 

This scholarship was established in the name of Roy H. and Joan Huber Gerling of Carman, IL. Priority to students who come from a low income family.

Students planning to further their education in Business, Finance or Agriculture should apply.

 


 

--Dale Garner Memorial Agricultural Scholarship (4/15/2020)*New this year*- fill out online or mail to: jill@jenksfamilyfarms.com

This scholarship was established in 2020 to honor Dale Eugene Garner, a lifetime farmer from the Keithsburg area. His commitment to the ag industry earned him the reputation of an honest, hardworking, farmer who wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty or train and mentor the next generation of farmers. The gap that his knowledge and expertise leaves in the farming community is great, and Jenks Family Farms hopes that this scholarship will attempt to somewhat stand in the gap of his absence. The purpose of this scholarship is to aid a worthy individual in furthering their education in an agriculture or trade school field.

A Parent must work at Smithfield Foods Monmouth facility. Applicant must be going to a 2 year or 4 year college/university or a vocational/technical school. 

 

 

 

--Henderson County 4-H Scholarship (Deadline: 4/20/2020)- Turn in to Henderson County 4-H office

Applicants must be active in a Henderson Co. 4-H group.  *Email Miss Nelson for more info*

 

--Western Illinois Agricultural Education Foundation Scholarship (Postmark deadline: 4/20/2020)-  Mail to:  Mark Lefler

This year we will award two $750 scholarships. This scholarship is open to women meeting one of the eligibility criteria: 1. Residing within a 30-mile radius of Galesburg, Illinois (if currently attending college this would be the person’s permanent address not the school address) 2. A high-school senior attending a school within a 30-mile radius of Galesburg, Illinois. Student must complete the application, write an essay, and submit two letters of reference.

The Julie Burdette Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Senior of West Central High School each year in May at the annual Honors Night Program as long as the funds in the scholarship account will support the award being given. The scholarship amount of $500 will be awarded to a West Central High School graduating Senior who demonstrates the following characteristics:  A demonstrated commitment to helping others, Participation in extracurricular events and activities, Demonstrated academic excellence (GPA)

 


 

--Union Class of ‘64 Legacy Scholarship

Must be a descendant of a graduate of the Union High School class of 1964. *Email Miss Nelson for info*

 

--The Vail Cordell Scholarship (Deadline Extended: 4/27/2020)- Email application & materials to Miss Nelson 

This scholarship was established by Mr. Bruner as a way to “pay back” for opportunities that he had received while a student in school. Applicants must be: a graduate of West Central High School, planning to continue their education at a 2 or 4 year institution of higher learning, and write an essay based on “Who they admire most.”--Pending--

In Memory of Aubrey Rene-Louise Bigger

A. Bigger Purpose scholarship was founded in 2019 for any high school senior planning to attend college for a public service degree or certification. For example, any medical field career, law enforcement, firefighter, etc. Applicants must be a WCHS senior, have community volunteerism, show determination for classroom academic achievement, show an interest in public service degree or certificate.

If you are a student who is enthusiastic, loves to volunteer, and have educational and trade school goals- you should apply! Applicants must: be a resident of Henderson County, IL, volunteer and have an individual organization support your application, be a senior in high school or enrolled in a college or trade school, have at least a 2.0 GPA, be accepted to (or enrolled) in an accredited college/university or tech. School.
