Below is a list of the current scholarships that I am aware of and that are currently live.  Stop by my office if you have questions. Remember, scholarships are free money- you should not have to pay to apply. Each little bit helps: Apply, Apply, Apply!

 

Scholarships available to Illinois & West Central students:

 

--Henderson County 4-H Scholarship (Deadline: May 1, 2019 to Henderson County 4-H office)

Applicant must:

·         Be a High School Senior who is an active member in a Henderson County 4-H Club. Applicant must be qualified to show and have been enrolled the past 4 years.   Have actively exhibited a project(s) during one of the last two years.    Have worked at the annual barbecue.        Be attending a college, university, junior college or trade school this fall.   Scholarships will be awarded based on the recommendation of the 4-H Leaders Scholarship Committee.    You may be required to attend an interview.

--2019-2020 Peacekeepers Scholarship Application (Law Enforcement or Military Dependents only) (Deadline: 5/15/2019- to local Sheriff’s office of your permanent residence)

Applicants must be permanent Illinois residents. Scholarships are to be utilized at institutions of higher learning. Students must be enrolled as a full-time student during the 2019-2020 school year (excluding summer session). Scholarships applicants must be dependents of active duty or retired Law Enforcement or Law Enforcement killed in line of duty death or dependents of active duty military, active Military Reserve, active National Guard or a member killed in action. Must attach essay on specified topic.

--Alicia Pence Scholarship (Deadline: 5/31/19)

In honor of Alicia Pence, Henderson county citizen, community volunteer, and longtime activist for Henderson County EDC two students will be awarded a $500 scholarship to be presented at the Henderson County Fair. You must be a resident of Henderson County, IL, be a community volunteer and have an individual or an organization support your application, be a senior in high school or enrolled in a college/trade school, have at least a 2.0 GPA throughout the last two years of high school, be accepted to an accredited college/university or tech. School. Winners will be announced at the Henderson County Fair.

--Mary F. Egan Scholarship (Postmark deadline: June 1, 2019)

This scholarship is dedicated to longtime KCCDD employee Mary Egan, and the recipient of this scholarship will be offered a minimum of $1,000 to help pursue future educational goals. Any student interested in pursuing a career in the fields of speech/language, health care, health or social services, or medicine are encouraged to apply.

--Iowa PGA (Postmark Deadline: June 14)

The Iowa PGA Foundation annually awards a college scholarship in memory of Charlie Burkart, PGA member for 49 years and Head PGA Professional at the Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids for 42 years. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist students in furthering their education. At least one high school graduate will be the 2019 Scholarship recipient in the amount of $1,500 per year for four years. Other previously graduated applicants will be reviewed with additional scholarships awarded when possible.Any graduating high school senior or previous graduate residing within the boundaries of the Iowa PGA Section and the State of Iowa is eligible to apply. The Iowa PGA Section is bounded on the west by U.S. Highway 71 and includes an area of Western Illinois from a point north of Quincy, east to near Springfield and directly north. It includes the major cities of Monmouth, Macomb, Galesburg, Moline, Rock Island, Kewanee and Galena. Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of their interest and activity in golf, the potential for future contributions to the game, leadership skills/community involvement, then on their academic/professional ability and financial need.

--Career and Technical Education Scholarships Horatio Alger Association (Deadline: June 15)

Must be enrolled in a 2 year or less career or technical degree/certificate program in Fall 2019 that will lead to employment. Apply online at: https://scholars.horatioalger.org/scholarships/about-our-scholarship-programs/technical/

 

--Change the Game Design Challenge (Deadline: June 7, 2019)

The design challenge intends to introduce a possible career in gaming to young women at an early age and empower the next generation of Game designers. The grand prize winner will receive $15,000 college scholarship and $15,000 donation to school or community center’s technology program. 5 finalists will have their game made and available for download on the Google Play Store. Must be a student age 13-18, should spend at least an hour developing game idea, share sketches, visuals of characters, settings and more along the way.

--Innovation in Education Scholarship (Deadline: the 20th of each month)

LA Tutors awards students who showcase their creativity and make positive impacts with a $500 Innovation in Education scholarship. On an ongoing monthly basis, this scholarship is open to all currently enrolled high school and college students who showcase their creativity while helping those around them (whether that be in a creative fundraiser, inventive new app, series of blog posts on a particular theme, etc.). The application deadline is 11:59 pm PST on the 20th of each month. Requirements: Must be currently enrolled in high school or college, Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (or the equivalent), Must be a citizen of, permanent resident of, or hold a valid student visa in the United States or Canada.  To Enter:

  • Submit an essay describing their innovative project

  • Provide supporting documentation (i.e. letter of recommendation, news article/website featuring their project, etc.)

Awards night is May 8th at 7PM in the WCHS gym!! If your student is an award and/or scholarship recipient, they will receive a letter from Nancy Hull inviting them to the ceremony. Hope to see you there!
