Reopening Plan and Calendar Changes with Important Dates/Deadlines

Good afternoon West Central Families,

At the West Central Board of Education meeting last night, September 23, 2020, the Board of Education approved increasing the number of in-person instruction days from four to five beginning Monday, October 19.  This means those who choose in-person instruction will attend all five school days.  Dismissal time will remain 12:15 p.m.  In-person instruction students will have four clock hours of in-person instruction and will be required to complete a minimum of one clock hour of remote learning in the afternoon each day. Remote learners will be required to complete a minimum of five clock hours of instruction each day. Currently, 30% of our students (228) are remote learners.  The afternoon time will allow teachers time to work with students, both remote and in-person, individually as well as give teachers the time they need to plan both in-person lessons and remote lessons.

Also, Friday, October 2 is currently scheduled as an SIP day.  Previously, we communicated that students would be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. on this day; however, to be consistent, we will now dismiss students at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, October 2.

Lunches will continue to be served the same way with one exception.  We will be sending home one breakfast meal and one lunch meal every day rather than two on Tuesdays.

If you have currently chosen remote learning for your child(ren) and would like them to return to in-person instruction 2nd quarter, you must notify the office where your child attends no later than Friday, October 9, so that we can make the necessary modifications in the classrooms and on buses.  If you do not notify the office where your child(ren) attends by October 9, your child(ren) will have to remain remote learners until the end of 2nd quarter.

Thank you so much for your cooperation and understanding as we work to provide a safe learning environment with the highest quality education we can under these unique circumstances.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your building administrator or myself at (309) 627-2371.

In partnership,

Paula Markey
Superintendent
